Mark and Elvira Kunis are the parents of Mila Kunis, who came to fame for her role as Jackie Burkhart on the Fox TV series, That ’70s Show.
Immigrated to the US in 1991
Mark and Elvira Kunis lived in the then-Soviet city, Chernivtsi, but had to relocate to the US with their whole family after the fall of the Soviet Union. They immigrated to the US on Refugee Visa in 1991 when their daughter, Mila Kunis was just seven years old.
It was right at the fall of the Soviet Union. It was very communisty, and my parents wanted my brother and me to have a future, and so they just dropped everything. They came with $250.
While talking about her move to the US, Mila revealed to Conan O’Brien that she didn’t even know they were immigrating to the US. Her parents lied to her and told her they were moving up the street.
One day we weren’t moving up the street, we were on a train and then we got to Moscow, and then we got on a plane and all of that was very new to me. The train was new, the plane was new, I had Coca-Cola for the first time. The entire experience was very new.
Although Elvira and Mark had full-time jobs in their hometown, they had to get out of the recently fallen country for a better future for their children, Michael and Mila Kunis. They were only allowed to carry $250 with them.
That was all we were allowed to take with us. My parents had given up good jobs and degrees, which were not transferable.
Mark, a Mechanical engineer back in Ukraine, started doing odd jobs – painting houses, installing toilets, and delivering pizza, while Elvira, a former physics teacher, started working at a local drug store to support their family.
Acting Classes for Mila
Although Elvira Kunis and her partner, Mark Kunis were living in financial distress, they didn’t think twice before sending their daughter, Mila Kunis, to acting classes. They only had $900 in their bank account and the acting classes cost $890.
There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason for what my mother did or why she did it. Mind you, I never got birthday presents, never holiday gifts. Like we weren’t a family of givers in that regard – it’s one of those kismet moments that you can’t explain.

The acting classes didn’t go in vain as Mila landed her first commercial when she was 9. Since then she’s been on a roll as she’s bagged 76 acting credits.
Mila Renovated Their LA Home
Mila Kunis’ parents, Mark and Elvira, currently live in a 595-square-foot condo in LA. In 2017, the Friends with Benefits alum surprised her parents with a surprise makeover of the condo with the help of designer, Breeze Giannasio. The makeover was shown during the pilot episode of the online video series, My Houzz.
They’ve done so many things for my brother and I. And so, I desperately want to give them something that I think they deserve.
Mila revealed that the remodeling was worth it when she saw her parents’ reaction to the condo for the first time.
Mark and Elvira Retired in 2013
Even though their daughter, Mila Kunis rose to fame early in her career and had offered help, Mark and Elvira Kunis never took a single dime from her. In 2011, Mila asked her mother to retire and revealed that her parents worked full time which, in turn, was taking a toll on their health.
Her parents finally took her advice two years later and decided to retire in 2013.
I’m so so happy that they finally stopped working. You’ve got to understand they’re 60 something and they’ve never not worked. It does take a toll on your health and there has got to be a happy medium. But I’m so stocked that my parents aren’t working. I have to be honest it’s really great.
Mark used to drive a cab in LA while Elvira worked at Rite-Aid. Post-retirement, Michael Kunis tried to get his dad, Mark, into golf but as things stand, that didn’t work out as planned.
Mark Kunis and Ashton Kutcher Are Similar
Mila Kunis says her dad, Mark Kunis, and her husband, Ashton Kutcher, are both similar in regards to confessing their love.
Mark confessed to his partner, Elvira Kunis, that he was in love with her, three months into their relationship fully drunk. The same thing happened to Mila as Ashton, also drunk, showed up at her door at 2 o’clock in the morning three months into their relationship and declared his love for her.
I told her I love her, and she said, ‘Don’t say it if you don’t mean it. Are you going to love in the morning when you wake up from this hangover?’ I work up the next morning and said, ‘I still love you.’

What are Their Children Doing?
Elvira and Mark Kunis are the parents of Michael and Mila Kunis.
Michael is currently married to Alexandra Blacker. They walked down the aisle at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, St. Petersburg in 2013.
As for Mila, she is married to the No Strings Attached actor, Ashton Kutcher. They have been married since July 2015. The couple has two children together, Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher, born in September 2014, and Dimitri Portwood Kutcher, born in 2016.
