What to Know about SZA’s Weight Loss! How Does She Stay Fit?

Solana Imani Rowe AKA SZA weighed more than 200 lbs prior to joining the entertainment industry but now she has dropped well over 50 lbs and become as thin as a rail.

Her dream was to become an Olympic gymnast, but it changed when she sang for her rapper brother. Well, accidental or not, she’s become a star with hit songs like Good Days, All the Stars, and Hit Different.  

Now let’s talk about SZA’s weight loss journey!

SZA Weighed 200 lbs

When SZA started her career, she weighed 200 pounds or 90.7 kilograms. She had to wear only baggy clothes and had to even put on her father’s shirts.

During the launch of Dove’s Girl Collective in 2018, she spoke about being 200 pounds and comfortable in her own skin.

It’s all about where it starts in your mind.I only wore my dad’s big t-shirts and socks on stage, no shoes, and didn’t even notice; never complained or tripped about my makeup.

The singer believes one should love their body and it’s a good thing to be comfortable in your body but they should try to see their full potential. She revealed it during an interview and shared how she came out of her comfort zone.

It was just a matter of where I was in my mind, but I did also come out of that space where I was like, I feel like I want to change. I want to be different. I want to grow. I want to learn. I think it’s one thing to be comfortable, but then it’s one thing to not see your full potential and your full picture. The standard should really come from within.

Due to this reason, she started thinking of losing weight. Her manager always supported her decisions and didn’t want her to lose weight for the sake of others.

Honestly, my manager, Punch, never asked me to ‘get dressed’ once. People would come to him like, ‘we need to clean her up,’ and he would say, ‘It’s fine. She’s fine.’

Although she didn’t like the ’90s style, she was always seen wearing it because of her weight.

I’m low key into the ’90s style. I’ve consistently been dressing in baggy clothes because I was heavy. I was 200 pounds, but that’s not really public knowledge. I was a lot bigger, so wearing baggy clothes not so much as a ’90s thing, it was what was comfortable and what fit.

SZA’s Weight Loss Journey

Losing weight for SZA was very difficult as she had digestive issues. But she didn’t give up and worked hard to lose weight. During her journey, she shared a list of foods that made her ill.

  • Fruits: Orange, Pear, Apple, Banana
  • Berries: Blueberry, Strawberry, Raspberry
  • Shellfish: Crab, Shrimp
  • Seafood: Cod, Halibut, Mackerel, Flounder
  • Dairy/Eggs: Egg yolks, Cow Milk
  • Meet: Beef, Pork
  • Beans: Navy bean, String bean, Soybean
  • Vegetables: Mushroom, Onion, Olive, Cabbage, Spinach
  • Nuts/ Seeds: Cashew, Sesame seed
  • Spices: Vanilla, Paprika

While talking about her weight loss journey on January 31, 2015, through Instagram, she wrote how she dropped 11 lbs to weigh 158 lbs.

I’ve struggled with size since I was 19 until I realized I’m just naturally built to be a bigger girl.I’m actually seeing some sustainable progress!! Today I faced the music and stepped on the scale to find out I’m finally 11 lbs down! From 169 – 158!!

In the now-deleted post, she shared how hard it was for her to manage weight loss due to genetics and a damaged digestive system.

SZA ends her Instagram post by asking her ladies to not give up so easily and stay committed. She says she is sleeping better, has more energy, and is motivated after losing weight.

Diet Plan of SZA

Well, SZA didn’t exactly follow a diet plan but her clean eating habit made it possible. While revealing her weight loss secrets in an Instagram post, she revealed how she never followed any crazy diet or supplements. She just did what felt right for her like drinking lots of water, eating less cheese and sugar, and being more active.

No crazy diet, no shakes, no cute ass “tea,” no supplements, still no gym (yet). Just being more active (light hikes n strolls etc.) LOTS uh water + doing and eating what feels right for ME and my body (less cheese less sugar). Whether I’m slim jimmy or thicker than a lil bit, it’s all a journey, and I’m in no rush from 168-152 at my own lil pace and still going.

When one of her fans asked her about her diet, she revealed she stayed away from dairy, wheat, sugar, and red meat. She also said she ate fish, high veggie, complex carbs, and drank lots of water.

Really don’t know a name for it, lmao. no red meat (mostly fish ) no dairy no wheat no sugar.. high veggie ..complex carbs only (squash, avocado . sweet potato ect) hella water dassii

SZA’s Weight Loss Experience

The musician, SZA told Essence how it felt to lose weight.

When I lost weight I didn’t want to wear baggy clothes anymore. I worked really hard not to have to wear baggy clothes. And now I just feel like it’s how I’m generally comfortable. Instead of doing just what was available, I can wear what I want, and that’s a blessing.

SZA says she lost weight for herself and not others.

It’s not about how they think you should be, look, feel, do, vibe, grow, or evolve. It’s about how YOU see you. How you feel you.
