Kari Hillsman was born on January 16, 1971, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as the daughter of Mary and AC Hillsman Jr (an army officer). She lost her father on Christmas Day, 2003 due to cancer. She was raised alongside a sister named Tarah Elan Hilsman Townsend.
Hillsman did her schooling at Andover High School. Later on, she joined Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing.

Kari Hillsman and Rick Fox started dating since their college days. She was with him when he was drafted and also during his tenure with the Boston Celtics.
When Fox was drafted by the Boston Celtics, NBA Draft in 1991, they were together. Following Rick’s placement in the Lakers, distance started to set them apart. Later on, in the late ’90s, the pair separated.
