She was raised alongside four siblings: John Patrick McGloin, Gilbert James McGloin II, Barbara Ann McGloin Johnson, and Kathleen McGloin.

Margaret McGloin shared her vows with Allen Ludden on October 11, 1943, in Nueces County, Texas. They got married in a private ceremony.

In 1952, she had her third child, Sarah. Professionally, she started her career as an audiologist and dancer but later on, pursued her career in karate.

In 2009, she earned her fifth-degree black belt in the World Seido Karate Organization. She also provided over $100 thousand of tuition assistance to her Thousand Waves Scholarship Fund.
